Week 12: 05 July 2009 - Apex Rangers aims 2nd

Organizer’s Notes:
1. From this week on, D2D will be using FAS referees for up to a quater of Sunday afternoon games. All teams are strongly advised to remind their players that shin-pads are a complusory item during matches.
2. All teams please take note that next week is Cup match week.
3. D2D Sports have been receiving a few complaints over the last few weeks of teams showing up late for games. The league is run on a flexible basis which is the essence of the tournament. However, we would like to remind all teams to be early for their games so that other teams and the referee are not kept waiting. Being punctual and getting ready quickly will show that the team and individual players are respecting the sport, league, opponents and the referees.
Teams are reminded that the referees can kick off the matches once a minimum of 7 players are ready. I hope this message is taken in good light and extended to all players in the D2D League.
Week 11 (28/06/09)
ORANGE COUNTY BACK ON TRACK
Tanjong Katong Sec - The OC romped to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Kentridge Rangers and are now top of the table once again by virtue of goal difference. Raven United’s title ambitions suffered a little stutter after being held to a 1-1 draw but are still firmly in the race with games in hand against the top 2 teams.
Team BI dedicates win to teammate
Team BI dedicated their win 3-2 against New Eastroids, to their team player Mr Nicholas Perretti who lost his fight to cancer and passed away last Monday. Thoughts and prayers go to Mr Perretti’s family and loved ones.
Elsewhere, Apex Rangers consolidated their 2nd position with a 2-1 victory over K-1-K Utd despite a good performance by K-1-K sweeper who marshalled the defence well.

K-1-K sweeper clearing everything in his sights

In another game, Mammoet played out a 2-2 draw with No Name Utd

FC Simpang in pole position
Taking advantage of Huat FC’s break this weekend, FC Simpang went top of the table after a well deserved 2-1 victory over Redbacks FC. Dirty Dozen’s fight to stay out of relegation trouble gained some headway following their 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Pathfinders.

Samalongkok firmly in front
Another fine win by Samalongkok, this time over fellow title challengers Ultras. The 7-4 victory brought Samalongkok to the top of the table with 2 games in hand over Ultras. Team Macheda also kept up the heat with a resounding 7-0 win over Woodlandsvista and a star performance by their teenage starlet.

Macheda Starlet

Elsewhere, Sporting Goras won their relegation dogfight against La Calle De Futbolista while FC Corpus Christi drew 3-3 with Kambing FC.

Week 10 (21/07/09)

RAVEN SINKS CHAMPIONS

Broadrick Sec - D2D veterans Raven United overcame season 2 champions The OC 2-0 in what is turning out to be an incredibly tight affair at the top of the table. No one team are clear favourites with every team having already dropped several points less than midway through the season. Whipping boys of the division, Doraemon Warriors, once again succumbed to their opponents and lost 0-3 to Vinataba, losing 1 man through a sending off in the process. Kentridge Rangers were held to a draw by KB United in another match.

WLWLW for Mammoet
Mammoet’s topsy turvy season continued with a 2-1 win over 442 FC. Their form is indeed predictable following every league lost with a win and a league win with a lost…

Huat’s Wesley steals win in dying moments
Huat FC sneaked back to the top of the table after a hardfought 5-4 victory against Dirty Dozen and FZE’s 1-1 draw with Redbacks FC. Despite being the underdogs, Dirty Dozen led 2-1 at one point of time and was creating chance after chance.

Wesley stealing the winner

DD was made to rue their wastefulness in front of goal as Huat FC finally fought back and player manager Wesley stole a last minute winner.

No Lamb Chops for Woodlandsvista
Woodlandsvista were humbled by 10 men Kambing FC as they succumbed to a 2-3 defeat. Starting the day on top of Kambing, Woodlandsvista hope for a tasty meal of lamb chops were dashed after a spirited display by Kambing. Elsewhere, Ultras beat Sporting Goras to go top of the table.

Organizer’s Notes:

1. D2D’s 3rd Sunday 9am League will kick off on the 5th of July with the league growing to 24 teams. The league has definitely grown very fast from 8 teams in the first to 12 in the second season. It is also good to see all 12 teams from the previous season indicating that they will stay on. Here’s wishing a big welcome to the new teams joining the D2D group of teams. This will bring the grand total of teams taking part in our league games to 80 from 8 in August 2008, less than a year ago.

2. Next Cup game will be on 12th July 2009.Sunday League Cup Round 1 (14/07/09)

LEAGUE CUP FAIRYTALE - ALA FA CUP

It was a weekend of upsets as the inaugural D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm League Cup kicked off to an exciting start. It would be easy to draw a parallel to England’s FA cup after many giant killing acts in this first round of competition. Out of the 14 games played, 6 had lower division teams trumping their higher division adverseries while another 5 games had the favourites shaving it close.

Apex Rangers triumph against Div 1 Doraemon Warriors

Leading the charge in the upset victories were 2nd division Apex Rangers. Pitted against Division 1 Doraemon Warriors, the Rangers turned upped their game by a notch and won 4-2 convincingly.

The match of the tournament had to be the one where Division 4 Samalongkok were up against Division 1 KB Utd. Already written off before the game was even played, Samalongkok proved that they were no underdogs as they bossed the Season 2 runners-up around, eventually winning 2-0.

In another upset, Redbacks FC from Division 3 went through to Round 2 after winning 2-1 on penalties over New Eastroids FC, the game having ended 2-2 at full time. The win was made all the more memorable as Radbacks had clawed back into the game after going behind on 2 occassions.

Pathfinders almost found their way…

K-1-K Utd suffered some close shaves but eventually went through by winning Division 3 Pathfinders 4-3. Their reward, or perhaps not, is now a date against giant slayers Samalongkok.

The cup matches for OOGLEEEE Boys, Renaissance FC, Nitroz and Corpus Christi will be played the coming weekend. This tournament is shaping up to be a really interesting one and be ready to expect more upsets with Round 2 of the tournament due to be played in July.

Organizer’s Notes:

D2D Sports, is currently organising 36 league games per weekend and this figures will reach nearly 50 with our exciting new Sunday league kicking off in July 2009. These figures do not include the number of friendly games arranged during the week and also the events D2D are engaged to organise and provide expertise and match officials.

D2D Sports is always looking for partners to work with and if you or or your establishment would like to be part of our growing operation please do not hesitate to contact us at info@d2dsports.com. Partnership link-ups include, advertising space on our popular website, newsletters and endorsing our referee’s kit to reach out to an extended audience at very competitive rates.

Week 8 (07/06/09)

BACK WHERE THEY BELONG

Damai Sec - The OC climbed back up to the top of the table following an impressive 4-2 victory over KB Utd. Despite being runners-up last season, KB Utd has suffered a stuttering start to this season and has amassed only 1 point in the last 5 games with their only win on the opening match of the season. The OC, on the other hand, are starting to find their rhythm following a slow start. Else where, Kentridge Rangers and Vinataba played out a 1-1 draw…

Mammoet Sees Stars
Mammoet FC’s were brought crashing back to earth by Team BI after their impressive win over 442 FC last week. A ruthless performance by league leaders saw them hit the target 8 times against a hapless Mammoet who had no answer to the total dominance. The fight in this league is very much for 2nd place now and Renaissance FC sit there with 11 points following a 4-3 win over K-1-K Utd. Apex Rangers are close behind with 10 points and 2 games in hand.

Dirty Dozen edges bottom of table clash
Dirty Dozen came out 5-3 victors in their bottom of the table match up with a 5-3 win over Redbacks FC. The result propelled them off the bottom of the table to 6th place, shooting past Redbacks FC and Pathfinder, who lost 2-1 to FC Simpang. Prestigio moved top after their exciting 3-3 draw with FC Tempastella with both FZE and Huat not playing this weekend.

Ultras fight back

Picture from Kambing-fc.blogspot.com

Week 7 leaders Ultras were staring defeat in their face when they trailed 0-2 to Kaimbing FC. However, a spirited fightback saw them claw their way back into the game and ended the game with a valuable point. It was not enough to keep them top as Samalongkok leapfrogged Ultras after a well deserved 3-1 victory over La Calle Doce Futbolista.

Sporting Goras’s player winning a header from a freekick

Elsewhere in the division, Sporting Goras fell 3-4 to Woodlandsvista despite an athletic display while Macheda thrashed FC Corpus Christi 5-1.

Week 7 (31/05/09)

CHAMPIONS ORANGE COUNTY BACK IN THE RACE

Bedok North Sec - Season 2 champions The OC’s stuttering start to the season got back underway after a narrow 2-1 victory over Nitroz. Pundits had begun to write off their title chances this season but this fantastic result has thrown the race wide open once again. Raven Utd’s 1-1 draw with KB Utd and Kentridge Ranger’s 2-1 victory over Doraemon Warriors meant that only 4 points separates the top 5 teams after 7 weeks of action. With more than half the season to go, this season is promising to go all the way to the end with no clear favourites…

Woeful finishing in Sengkang Sec

Midfield battle between Renaissance playmaker Dominic and Apex Captain

Renaissance FC and Apex Rangers played out a 0-0 draw but the game was far from a dull one. Renaissance playmaker Dominic earned a penalty mid way through the 2nd half only to see team mate Simon hit the post from the spot. Renaissance FC had missed a host of chances in the game and were almost made to pay for their wastefulness when Ranger’s number 99, Alvin, ran through clear on goal at the death of the match. To his dismay and Renaissance’s relief, his side footed attempt came off the post and went out for a goalkick. Elsewhere, Mammoet FC beat 442 FC 3-1.

FZE back on top
FZE are back on top of the league after their brilliant 4-0 win over Dirty Dozen. Huat FC were upset 3-0 by Prestigio and the latter is now only a point behind the former. Pathfinders finally found their first win of the season after a 4-3 victory over Redbacks FC in a game where their goalkeeper was called into action several times.

Pathfinder goalkeeper in action

CONGRATULATIONS CORPUS CHRISTI
FC Corpus Christi’s prayers for a win were finally answered after 1 and a half season and 19 games without a point. Their euphoric triumph came against La Calle Doce Futbolista in a thrilling 4-3 match.

At the top of the table, Ultras beat Woodlandvista 4-1 to stay top of the table while Samalongkok edged past Macheda 2-1 to keep within a point of Ultras with a game in hand.

Notes:

The D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm League Cup draw was held at Sengkang Sec in the presence of managers from Kentridge Rangers, Doraemon Warriors, Apex Rangers and Renaissance FC. Referee Vijay and oPoD reporters also witnessed the draw.

Notes:

1) We would like to highlight that there have been an unfortunate case of violent conduct during one of the matches this week in the Saturday League. D2D doesn’t condone such behaviour and would like to remind all teams that it will not hesitate to remove the team from the league. Team managers are encouraged to inform their players of this and also of D2D’s point deduction system for yellow and red cards.

2) The Draw for Sunday’s D2D Cup 2009 has been carried out as reported. The 1st Round of matches will take place on the 14th of June 2009.

Week 6 (24/05/09)

LEADERS HELD

Broadrick Sec - League leaders Oogleeee Boys were held to a 2-2 draw by Kentridge Rangers and failed to pull away from Nitroz and Raven United, both behind them but with games in hand. Newcomers Vinataba stunned Season 2 runner-up KB Utd with a 2-1 victory.

Rangers refuses to let up
New Promotes Apex Rangers kept up the chase on Team BI after their 3rd straight victory in the D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm Division 2 League. Bouncing back from their opening day defeat by Team BI, Apex Rangers have now chalked up 9 points out of 9, averaging 4 goals a game in the process. Team BI remained top following another high margin win while Reinassance FC scored their 2nd win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Mammoet FC

FZE flounders as Huat goes top
FZE’s 100% record in the league was smashed to bits by mid table FC Simpang. A result which has left punters fuming, their 4-2 defeat was thrown the title challenge wide open.

Leading by example: Player Manager Wesley scores for Huat FC

Elsewhere in the league, Huat FC, led by player manager Wesley, took advantage of FZE’s slip up and went top of the table with a 4-1 victory over Dirty Dozen. FC Tempastella also overtook FZE on goal difference after their 4-3 victory over Redbacks FC.

FC Tempastella rose to the challenge, edging a tight affair 4-3

Macheda downed
Macheda dropped their first points of the season after going down 3-2 to Ultras, a result which moved them to the top of the table. Samalongkok maintained their 100% record with a 5-1 victory over Kambing FC.

Notes:

1. The League Organizers would appreciate if all team managers could verify and report if there are any discrepancies in the updates of results of their matches immediately.

2. The draw for the D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm League Cup will be held next Sunday 31st May, at 5pm, in Sengkang Secondary School. The draw will be held in the presence of the D2D League Organizers as well as the 4 team managers of the teams who are playing at Sengkang Sec on that day. All other team managers are welcome to attend the draw as well. Matches for the League Cup will be held once a month.

Week 5 (17/05/09)

DORAEMON STILL SEARCHING FOR FIRST POINT

Ang Mo Kio Sec - Oogleeee Boys continued their dream start to the season by killing off table proppers Doraemon Warriors. Both teams are newly promoted from Division 2 but the Warriors are finding life in the top division tough. 10 men Nitroz beat KB United 3-0 despite having a man sent off while Raven Utd edged a tight encounter against Kentridge Rangers. The game was there to be won by both teams but Raven showed more desire for the ball, which was the decisive factor.

Raven defenders fighting for the ball in a corner

Double digit for Team BI
Another week, another masterful display by Team BI. This time, it was the new boys Red Advocates at the receiving end of a 12-1 thrashing by Team BI. With a 100% record in the league thus far, Manager of Team BI was quoted as saying that, “Team BI aims to improve on its performance week-in week-out and continue to excite anyone who loves a stylish game of passing football.” Apex Rangers kept up their title hopes with a 3-1 victory over Reinassance FC while Mammoet FC opened their season with a 4-2 victory over K-1-K Utd.

3 in 3 for FZE
Despite being new to the league, FZE are proving to be a force to be reckoned with as they racked up their 3rd consecutive win of the season. Huat FC bounced back from last week’s disappointment as they triumphed 2-1 over Redbacks while Prestigio came out winners in a thrilling 4-3 encounter against FC Simpang

100% for Macheda and Samalongkok
3 wins in 3 and 2 wins in 2 for Macheda and Samalongkok. It may be early in the season but the frontrunners for this D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm Division 4 League can already be seen. Other than these 2, the Ultras are the other team who looks to be probable title contenders. FC Corpus Christi’s woes continues but this season, they may be joined by Sporting Goras in propping up the table as both clubs compete to score their first points.

Week 4 (10/05/09)

CHAMPIONS STUNNED

Deyi Sec - Champions The OC slow start to the season continued after they were humbled 4-2 by new boys Kentridge Rangers. With only 1 win in 3, The OC’s bid to retain their title this season appears to be danger. Promotee Oogleeee Boys once again impressed with a 4-3 victory over Vinataba and now stands proudly at the top of the D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm Division 1 League.

Washout in Div 2
3 out of 4 games were rained off in Division 2 after a heavy morning downpour devastating many pitches in Singapore. The only match which went on saw New Eastroids play out a 2-2 draw with Reinassance FC.

Thumbs up for Huat
Huat FC displayed extraordinary sportsmanship when their match with FC Tempastella was moved from Bishan Park Sec to Tampines at the last minute. Many of the first 11 players could not make the game due to the change in location but Huat FC decided to soldier on with whatever resources they had. They eventually fell 6-0 to Tempastella but it’s this sporting spirit which the D2D League hopes many other teams can emulate in future. Elsewhere, all other games played out scoring draws.

La Calle Doce Futbolista edge thrilling encounter
La Calle Doce Futbolista triumped 3-2 over Kambing FC in a tight match up. Ultras beat Sporting Goras 3-1 to go 2nd in the table while Woodlandvista WV scored their first victory with a 2-1 win over FC Corpus Christi.

Week 3 (03/05/09)

NEW BOYS BROUGHT BACK TO EARTH

Broadrick Sec - New promotes Oogleeee Boys’ smashing start to the season came crashing to a stop as they were humbled by Division 1 veterans Nitroz 4-3. The defeat was made all the more sour as Nitroz scored in the last minute to steal a win from under the noses of the Oogleeee Boys. Nitroz’s first victory of the season propelled them to the top of the table, having now played 1 more game than the rest of the league leaders.

In Division 2, Team BI once again conjured magic to stage an amazing comeback from 3-0 down to win 4-3 after K-1-K Utd had a man sent off.

ign: left;”>In Division 4, Man Utd’s teenage prodigy’s namesake Team Macheda trumphed 2-0 over FC Corpus Christi. FC Corpus Christi’s nightmare continues from last season and they have gone on an amazing 15 game losing run in the league. Team Macheda now leads the D2D Sunday 3pm / 5pm Division 4 league with 2 wins out of 2.

Week 2 (26/04/09)

CHAMPIONS WIN IN STYLE

Woodlands Sec - Champions The OC got back to winning ways in style scoring a 9-2 victory over Doraemon Warriors after last week’s disappointing start to the season. With early season front runners Raven United faltering against Nitroz, The OC are now back on top of the D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm Division 1 League. Despite the setback, Raven United manager was still in buoyant mood after the 2-2 draw.

“Today’s got to be one of the best conditions for a game so far.” commented Ben. “The pitch was amazing, the weather brilliant, and the referee impeccable!” as the manager raved on.

In another match, new boys Oogleeee boys continued their stunning start to the season, sneaking a 1-0 victory over runners-up KB Utd. Punters are now sitting up to their early season feat and bookmakers have reacted by slashing the new promotes’ odds of being relegated to 1/1000.

2 in 2 for K-1-K and BI K-1-K Utd and Team Beyond Imagination kept up their perfect start to the season with comprehensive victories over 442 FC and Reinassance respectively. Apex Rangers drew first blood against fellow Division 2 newcomers Red Advocates, winning 6-1. The much expected matchup between New Eastroids and Mammoet was unexpectedly rained off, a pity given the scheduled visit by local amatuer football newstand oPoD’s reporters.

Huat on top Huat FC’s outstanding defence once again held firm against FC Simpang as they narrowly won 2-1, propelling Huat to the top of the table. With only 1 goal conceded all season thus far, teams must now find ways to break down Huat’s stubborn defence. New joiners FZE also maintained a 100% record following their 2-1 win over FC Tempestella, while all other matches in the division ended up in scoring draws.

Fierce aerial challenge between Redbacks and Pathfinder

Notes:

Honours were split (1-1) in this intriguing matchup with the new promotes showing that they can compete at the highest level. The Season 2 Division 3 champions will surely be brought back to earth after this match and realize that life in the higher divisions will never be the same. A coup in itself that the D2D Sunday league managed to attract top teams from other leagues, the tournament will look forward to further impressive shows by Team BI. In other matchups, Renaissance FC and K-1-K Utd each overcame their opponents 4-0 and 3-1 respectively.

High scoring affair in Division 3 Huat FC were the only team in the D2D Sunday 3pm/5pm league to keep a clean sheet on a weekend which can only be described as goals galore. With their tight defence refusing to concede and an attack in red hot form, Huat FC shot to the top of the table after their impressive 4-0 victory over new joiners Pathfinder. FC Simpang and FC Tempestella both had high scoring victories as well, while FZE edged out Prestigio 4-3.

Blank for United’s Macheda but not for Singapore’s While Manchester United’s red hot youngster Federico Macheda fired blanks all day yesterday, Singapore’s very own Team Macheda demonstrated their own goal-scoring abilities by firing 5 goals past Sporting Goras. This ruthless showing by Macheda should have all teams on high alert. FC Corpus Christi continued their woeful form from last season losing 3-1 to Kambing FC while Samalongkok won 4-3 over the boys from the North, Woodlandvista. The final game of the week saw Ultras and La Calle Doce Futbolista play out a 2-2 draw.

Organisers’ Notes:

(1) The captain of a team may report a player or team from the opposing team, who they deem as not being sporting, showing undue aggression, verbally abusing, being violent, towards their players, referee or supporters, to the organisers through an e-mail within 48 hours of the incident.

(2) It is the role of the captains to control his side and according to FIFA, only the captain should be speaking to the referees. When a player chooses to throw a punch at or hit another player, he is solely at fault and not the fault of the referee for not being able to control the match. Period.

(3) Please note that the referees are also human beings. They are not there to be verbally abused by players but are contributing to the league as referees to officiate our games. It will not help us to see our current set of referees, refusing to officiate our games. On occasions they are treated like lowly beings by just wearing a referee shirt. Our referees also look forward to officiating our games and want to enjoy the matches. Please give this point a thought. Like how our elders have taught us, how we treat waiters/waitresses, ie people that serve us, is an indication of the kind of people we are.

(4) As we have done in the past, D2D will not hesitate to remove teams, who we feel are not positively contributing to the league , and replacing them with another team.

Week 6 (23/11/08)

With none of the top 4 teams in the BPL managing to find the back of the net, it was a weekend of sorts as well for D2D…well the long and short of it is….

Ventz and Monforto hit the coffeeshops out in Pasir Ris at Half Time and so did 442 and Raven. No, it wasnt a walkout - but more of being sensible, with heavy rain and a lightning storm erupting halfway through the game, it was reasons enough to give the Tiger Lady some early business. KB Utd and The OC were told to head back home at the carpark for their 5pm kick off at SJI by the referee if they value their precious lives.

And if thats not enough, how’s this for some amazing scorelines for games that actually went on:

Perstigio 5 No Name 5 (Div 2) Kent Ridge 6 Viva La Sasau 1 (Div 2) Apex 7 FC Corpus 0 (Div 3) K 1 K 5 RSM 3 (Div 3)

* The team with the worst record will have 1 point deducted at the end of the tournament.
