D2D Sunday League Cup is here again, revamped with a new format. Slated to kick-off on 13 December 2009 (Round 1), this new League Cup will involve 36 teams vying for the top spot and a reputation amongst the D2D Sports fraternity.

The results of the draw held on 6 Dec 09 is out. The draw was done by the management of D2D Sports, together with representatives from Samalongkok, Kambing FC, Prestigio and Sarcafargo. This time round, we see that Group E, I and L may just be the groups to watch out for. In Group E, FC Simpang may be in Div 1 this year, but a revamped and energised Redbacks may prove its mettle too. So does Kent Ridge Rangers, who despite being in Div 4 had had the experience of playing in Div 1. Over in Group I,1980 is no newbie to be trifled with, whilst Prestigio and Team Tsubasa seem set to give each other some very stiff competition. And alas, not much can be said when you’re in Group L. Alongside the league champion for 2 seasons running, The OC, will be the FZE team who made it to the final of last season’s League Cup. However, Woodlandvista WV, may just spring a surprise for them this season. Whose game will it be? We will find out.

Here’s the lowdown of the new and revised format:

1. In Round 1, 36 teams will be broken down to 12 groups with 3 teams in each. Following a round-robin structure, teams face off with each other and play only one leg of game each time.

2. From here, the top 16 teams will go on to the next round i.e. champions from the 12 games (12 teams) and the best 4 runners-up from these 12 games (4 teams).

3.  To level the competition; in a situation where the best 4 runners-up have the same points, goal difference and goal scored, the team with the lower placing in the league will progress to the next round. This also means that if both teams are from the same division, the team that is lower placed than the other will move on. D2D hopes that lower-placed teams either in placing or divisions would strive to compete with higher-placed teams in this League Cup tournament.

4.  Seeding of the first 12 teams have been done, in an effort to ensure that the top division teams are equally distributed amongst the groups for Round 1.  Here are the first 12 seeded teams:

4. Mammoet FC (Div 1)
5. Oogleeee boys (Div 1)
6. Apex Rangers (Div 1)
7. FC Simpang (Div 1)
8. Team BI (Div 1)
9. New Eastroids (Div 2)
10. 442 FC (Div 2)
11. Team Prestigio FC (Div 2)
12. FC Tempastella (Div 2)

5. The draw for the rest of the teams will be done this Sunday, 6 December 2009 at Bowen Secondary 3pm. D2D invites all team managers who may not have any games fixed on Sunday to join us in the draw.

6. To all teams, best of luck! The League Cup games will also be extended to the teams from our Sunday 9am League and Saturday 5pm League. The draw will be held in January 2010. Keep a watch for that.
